College Planning Checklist-Sophomores

  • Take the PLAN test, administered at FACS. This provides you with an early idea of what you can expect to score on the ACT college entrance exam as a junior.
  • Use the internet to start looking at colleges through their web sites.
  • Begin attending college fairs and campus events.
  • Get a job.
  • Start a bank account and a savings account. Save as much money as possible for college.
  • Begin shadowing professionals who work in your areas of potential career interest. Shadowing involves following someone around for a day to observe on-the-job activity.
  • Continue to opt for the toughest classes.
  • Take on leadership roles in school, church, and community service organizations. Keep a scrapbook to record your activities and achievements.
  • Keep copies of your best schoolwork for your portfolio.
  • Study hard. Your grades go on your permanent record.
  • Consider applying for a summer course, workshop or training in an area of career interest.
