CORDOVA, TN—First Assembly Christian School kicked off its 2008 football season with grace and style last Friday, August 22.
FACS hosted Douglass High School for Douglass’s first football game since reopening this August.
On the same night, the FACS football team introduced its most important member and this season’s captain, 4-year-old Make-A-Wish participant Austin Rainey of Middleton, TN.
On a style note, the FACS team debuted new uniforms, senior Kenzie Tilson sang the National Anthem, and the Cordova Army Career Center presented our country’s colors.
Douglass players and fans appeared happy to be on the gridiron despite FACS’s 43-0 victory.
A North Memphis school, Douglass closed its doors in 1981 and sat vacant for nearly a quarter century, even after the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. The school reopened this year with 350 students in grades 9-11 and with plans to add a senior class next school year. FACS has already scheduled a game with Douglass for 2009.--from The Memphis Commercial Appeal
