Webster's New World College Dictionary defines a booster as an "enthusiastic supporter."
That definition doesn't say anything about spending hours standing over a hot grill. There's no mention of middle-aged men running on and off the football field to place and remove band equipment with all the speed and precision of a NASCAR pit crew. Nor does Webster's talk about parents who paint scenery, sew costumes, and get up at 5 a.m. on Saturdays to travel with theatre students who never stop rehearsing their lines.
Yet without the help of parents who are willing to make such sacrifices, FACS might not be able to sustain its winning athletic, band and theatre arts programs. Boosters contribute funds, do much of the dirty work, and add an intangible sense of family to the FACS atmosphere.
