Secondary Faculty

Kendall Boyd

Kendall Boyd joined the FACS staff full time in

2008 and teaches seventh and eighth grade literature.    She also coaches volleyball. Ms. Boyd graduated from FACS in 2003 as class valedictorian. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in history from the University of Memphis. Ms. Boyd has been involved in numerous missions outreach activities.

Jennifer Cox                                                                                                  Jennifer Cox teaches life skills and health to seventh and eighth grade students and coaches varsity volleyball and junior high girls’ basketball. She received a bachelor’s degree in fitness management and a Master of Arts in Teaching (secondary education) from the University of Memphis. She is a water safety, CPR and first aid instructor. Mrs. Cox taught boys’ and girls’ health and physical education at Evangelical Christian School for eight years, where she coached volleyball and softball. She has also coached gymnastics for 16 years. Mrs. Cox said her life verse is Philippians 4:13—“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Traci Dobson

Traci Dobson joined the FACS faculty in 2009 and teaches sophomore and junior English. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Memphis. Mrs. Dobson taught high school English for nine years at Millington Central High School and has also taught dual enrollment English through the University of Memphis. She quotes a favorite scripture regarding her work: "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." (I Peter 4:9-11)

Susanne L. Faulkner

Susanne Faulkner joined the FACS staff in 2002. She

teaches high school geometry and eighth grade algebra and manages the school's computer technology. Mrs. Faulkner holds a Bachelor of  Science in journalism from the University of Memphis and a Master of Education from Christian Brothers University. Prior to entering the teaching profession, she worked in business and advertising.

Dale Flickinger

Dale Flickinger has been an FACS staff member since 1990 and teaches our advanced mathematics courses, including AP calculus, precalculus, honors algebra II and honors geometry. He also serves as chess coach. In addition, he directs a citywide chess program with about 1,500 players, Memphis Scholastic Chess. He received a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and Biblical studies from Evangel University. Mr. Flickinger said he tries to live his life in light of one of his favorite praise choruses. “Knowing Jesus is the greatest thing,” he said. “He’s my all, He’s my best, He’s my joy, my righteousness, and I love Him!”

 

Laurie Gardner

Laurie Gardner teaches honors chemistry and chemistry. She holds a Bachelor of Liberal Studies from the University of Memphis, where she is currently pursuing her Master of Arts in Teaching. Ms. Gardner is certified to teach science in grades 7-12 and has taught Spanish to homeschool groups for three years. She also spent six years serving as a house parent at the Bartlett campus of Tennessee Baptist Children’s Homes, Inc. Her life verse is found in Zephaniah 3:17: “The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; He will save; He will rejoice over thee with joy; He will quiet thee with His love; He will joy over thee with singing.”

 

Sherrie Hopper

Sherrie Hopper joined the FACS staff in 2008 and

teaches high school world history and geography. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science with a minor in criminal justice, and a Master of Arts in political science with an emphasis in international law and public policy from the University of Memphis. She is a licensed instructor in history and government and is currently working toward her Ph.D. in history. "I am so thankful that God's plan for my family included FACS," Ms. Hopper said. "I hope to glorify Him by being a blessing to the students and faculty at FACS both in the classroom and out."

Erin Lindberg

Erin Lindberg joined the FACS teaching staff in 2006.She teaches introduction to theatre arts, theatre II, speech, junior high theatre, and economics, sponsors the FACS Thespian Society, coaches our forensics team, and directs theatrical productions. Originally from Florence, Alabama, Mrs. Lindberg earned her Bachelor of Arts in international studies from Rhodes College. Prior to joining the FACS staff, her experience included theatre and speech instruction at Playhouse on the Square and work for an area magazine.

Joey Lowe

Joey Lowe teaches junior high school social studies and history. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Sociology from the University of Memphis. Mr. Lowe also coaches junior high sports. Mr. Lowe said he appreciates the opportunity to work in a "friendly, small-school atmosphere. It feels like a family."

 

Barbara McDade                                                                                        Barbara McDade teaches junior and senior high art   classes and serves as co-sponsor of the FACS Student Government Association. She began teaching at FACS  in 1984 and is known for individual attention to students’ artistic development. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in visual art from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. One of her favorite quotes: "In the arts students develop a sense of themselves.  Art education develops self-esteem helping students succeed in life."  (Sandy Brooks, “Hooked on Drawing.”  Englewood Cliffs: Prentice Hall, 1996). 

Clay Meadows

Clay Meadows joined FACS in 2008. He teaches junior high Bible and provides counseling to junior high students. He holds a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Crichton University. He is a graduate of the FACS Class of 1999. Past work includes experience in retail management and banking. “My main goal at FACS is to allow God to use me in any way He wants for His purposes,” Mr. Meadows said. “I’m enjoying developing relationships with the students.”

 

Carol J. Metcalf

Carol Metcalf teaches sophomore and senior English and Advanced Placement English, which culminates in an AP Victorian Tea held each spring semester. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Furman University and a Master of Arts in English from the University of Memphis. Prior to joining the FACS staff in 1993, Mrs. Metcalf taught at Raleigh Egypt High School for four years, at Bartlett High School for two years, and in South Carolina for three years.

Kyle Nichols                                                                                                         Kyle Nichols assisted as a coach for both football and baseball in 2009, and comes to us full time in 2010 to teach speech and economics and to serve as Varsity Baseball Head Coach and an assistant football coach. Mr. Nichols received his Bachelor of Science in Social Science Secondary Education from Samford University in Birmingham. Hebrews 12:11 is his favorite verse—“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

Kathy Petermann

Kathy Petermann joined the FAC S faculty in 2009 and teaches algebra 1, algebra 2, and honors algebra 2. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS, and a Master of Education from Union University. She previously chaired the Math Department at Southern Baptist Educational Center. "When I was ten years old," she said, "God used my neighbors from First Assembly Christian Church to share the gospel with me through an after school Bible study. I trusted the Lord at that time, and feel so blessed now to be able to serve Him here at FACS.

Paul D. Piker

Mr. Piker teaches basic algebra I and II and Bible I in the high school as well as a math-based physics course. He also coaches the FACS Knowledge Bowl team and assists with school sports teams. He earned his bachelor’s degree in secondary education for mathematics from the University of Arkansas, and taught for 17 years in Arkansas prior to joining the FACS staff in 2004.

Linda Powell

Linda Powell has taught resource classes at FACS since

1988. Her current duties include resource instruction

in high school English and math. She also co-sponsors the student government association. Mrs. Powell works closely with teachers in other areas to help her

students meet requirements in all of their subject

matter, and with the Guidance Department to provide her students with college and career planning tools specific to their individual needs. She holds a Master of Science in special education from the University of Memphis. “I believe all students CAN learn if properly taught. I love to watch them learn.”

 

Carolyn Priest

Carolyn Priest, who joined the staff in 2006, teaches resource math and English. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in psychology from Blue Mountain College, and a master’s degree in education from the University of Mississippi. She previously taught junior kindergarten, fifth through eighth grade resource classes, and third through 12th grade homebound students, all in Mississippi. “FACS promotes the same Christian and moral values we do (as a family), as well as striving for academic excellence,” she said.

Kelly Rogers                                                                                                           Kelly Rogers joined the FACS staff in 2010. She teaches seventh grade Spanish and Spanish I and II. She received her Bachelor of Science in Parks and Recreation Administration with a Recreational Therapy emphasis from University of Tennessee, Martin, and a Master of Science in Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of Memphis. She also holds a Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language and an Official Advanced Spanish Certificate from Escuela Oficial de Idiomas Central de Madrid, Spain. Mrs. Rogers previously served in missions as a church planter in Spain for 18 years, where she worked as a language and cultural learning coordinator.

Stanley Scott

Stanley Scott joined the FACS staff in 2005, bringing

36 years’ teaching experience to his position in junior

high science. He received his Bachelor of Science in

education from Union University and a Master of Arts

in administration from the University of Memphis. He

also has added 45 post-graduate credit hours from the University of Memphis and Cumberland University.

Tim Simpson

Tim Simpson joined the FACS faculty in 2009. He directs all instrumental music activities, including our elementary and secondary bands and the School of Music. He also teaches music appreciation to high school students. He holds a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Memphis and has a decade of experience in band direction. Mr. Simpson is a member of the Germantown Church of Christ. He has claimed Colossians 3:23 as his verse in teaching: "Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men."

Mary Spain

Mary Spain has taught at FACS since 1978. She holds a Bachelor of Science in education from the University of Memphis and is certified to teach all subjects in grades one through nine. Currently, she supervises study hall.

 

 

Pamela Therrell

Pamela Therrell began teaching French to FACS

students in 2003, and serves students in grades eight through 12. She also teaches wellness classes. She began speaking French in high school and minored in French while earning a Bachelor of Arts in marketing from Delta State University. She also has studied at the Alliance Francaise in Paris. Madame Therrell, as students call her, began her teaching career as a tutor and educational assistant. “Each class at FACS has its own personality,” she says. “Every day adds new meaning to teaching.”

Carolyn Ward                                                                                                Carolyn Ward joined the FACS staff in 2010. She teaches Latin, psychology and sociology at the senior high level and wellness, critical thinking and physical education for junior high. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Memphis and a Master of Arts from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Ms. Ward lived in Israel for two years. She is a 2001 FACS graduate. Previously, she served FACS in after-school care.

Jo Ann Webber

Jo Ann Webber teaches elementary computer, junior

high keyboarding, computer applications I and II, and

web design. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business

administration and a master’s degree in education

from the University of Memphis, and has taken several doctoral courses. She joined FACS in 1986, having taught previously at Miller Hawkins Business College and the University of Memphis. She also has direct business experience in the areas of data processing and accounting.

D'Marius Wilkes

Coach "D" Wilkes joined FACS as head varsity basketball coach in 2009. He also serves as a cross country coach and teaches physical education and wellness courses. He holds a Bachelor of Education from Middle Tennessee State University, with a minor in athletic coaching. He previously taught and coached at White Station High School and Crichton College. He said he is excited about serving Christ as part of the FACS family. He tells his students that their development as young men who will serve God and lead their families wisely is as important to him as their development as athletes.

Cindy Winston, Attendance Secretary                                               Cindy Winston has managed the FACS Attendance Office since the fall of 2009. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Business and Economics with a minor in German from Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Mrs. Winston served as a substitute teacher at FACS for eight years and previously served as a financial analyst for Dun and Bradstreet.

Amy Wootton                                                                                                     Amy Wootton directs the junior and senior high choirs, teaches music appreciation, and oversees the Chapel Worship Band. Ms. Lindberg is a 2005 graduate of FACS. She received her Bachelor of Arts in music with an emphasis on Christian studies from Union University in 2008. She joined the FACS staff in the fall of 2008. Her favorite quote is, "One life, which will soon be past, only what is done for Christ will last."

Valerie Young                                                                                                   Valerie Young joined the FACS staff in 2009. She teaches seventh grade math, eighth grade algebra and a junior high elective in Christian literature. She received her Bachelor of Science in education from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, and has also completed some graduate degree work at Houston Baptist University, Southwestern Theological Seminary in Texas, the University of Memphis, and the National Institute of Learning Disabilities at the Nazarene College in Chattanooga, TN. She has 11 years' teaching experience, including work locally with Christ Methodist Day School and Briarcrest Christian Schools.
