We are blessed and excited to announce Coach Johnny Loper as the New Boys Varsity Head Basketball Coach for First Assembly Christian School. Coach Loper’s journey in athletics and ministry through sports has been one guided by faith, purpose, and a genuine desire to impact the lives of young people for God’s glory.
Beginning his career in 1999 as a personal trainer at Columbia Athletic Club in South Carolina, Coach Loper quickly discovered that true strength extends beyond physical ability. It's one built through discipline, integrity, and heart. Over the past 27 years, he has earned numerous awards in the health and wellness field, yet his greatest rewards come from witnessing transformation in the lives of those he mentors.
After retiring from the Professional Arena Football League in 2004, Coach Loper allowed his talents and gifts to lead him into entrepreneurship through opening JayLo Fitness Studios. After over 10 years of owning a successful business, he felt called to return to coaching in 2015, turning his experiences into a ministry of encouragement and leadership.
In 2020, he founded Jay Lo Sports United, a competitive basketball organization created to give every young athlete, not just the most recognized, an opportunity to compete, grow, and discover their God-given potential. Through this program, he has coached and guided more than 500 young people across Desoto County and Memphis, building champions on the court and in character.

Currently serving as a Physical Education and Wellness teacher and assistant football coach here at FACS, Coach Loper leads with the belief that athletics can be a powerful vessel for faith and personal growth. His coaching philosophy centers on mentorship, teamwork, and spiritual strength, equipping student-athletes to play with purpose, lead with humility, and honor God in all they do.
We are truly grateful to have Coach Loper continue his purpose as a member of our FACS family. His faith-centered leadership and passion for building servant-hearted leaders will continue to inspire our players, families, and community. May this new season be filled with unity, growth, and the joy that comes from striving together toward excellence—on and off the court.
