Exciting Changes and New Leadership in FACS Athletics

Updated: Jun 9

A new season is upon us, and with it comes a wave of exciting changes within the FACS Athletics Department. We’re proud to announce this new leadership—one that brings a perfect blend of passion, experience, and a Christ-centered vision for the future of our athletic programs.

Coach Jason Curtis Named Athletic Director

We are thrilled to officially name Coach Jason Curtis as the new Athletic Director at First Assembly Christian School! After serving as our Dean of Students this past year, Coach Curtis now steps into this new role with over 20 years of experience as both an educator and a football coach.

A former football player for the University of Memphis, Coach Curtis earned his B.S. in Education and later a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership. He has played an integral role in building two successful high school football programs and thrives on the challenge of growth and development. His greatest joy? Helping students mature into strong, productive Christian adults.

Coach Curtis has taken off with this new role, and we are thrilled about what his experience in education, athletics, and business add to FACS Athletics. In his short time as Athletic Director, he's played a ginormous role in hiring new stand-out coaches to take our athletics to the next level. In addition to new Girls' Basketball Coach, Toby Taylor, we are thrilled to announce the following:

Coach Marc Moffett, Baseball Head Coach

Coach Marc Moffitt Named Head Baseball Coach

After a season of transition, we are proud to bring a familiar and respected leader to the helm of our baseball program. Coach Marc Moffitt has been named the Head Baseball Coach at FACS. With 25 years of experience coaching at every level, Coach Moffitt is also the founder and operator of Mid-South Gamers, one of the region’s most successful competitive baseball organizations. Over the past 12 years, his program has helped more than 300 athletes earn college scholarships, with 22 players going on to be drafted into Major League Baseball.

A former All-District and Best of Preps selection at Houston High, Coach Moffitt played at Jackson State Community College and Bethel College, earning multiple conference honors. His extensive coaching career includes stops at Bartlett High and Houston High before joining the FACS program last year as a varsity assistant.

Coach Mills, Assistant Head Baseball Coach

Joining Coach Moffett in leadership is another beloved figure in the FACS family—Coach Matt Mills, now serving as Assistant Head Baseball Coach. Known across campus for his servant-hearted leadership and steady presence, Coach Mills will continue to pour into the lives of our student-athletes with integrity and dedication.

We’re also excited to welcome Coach Johnny Loper to the team. He will serve as the lead for weight training and assist with football. Coach Loper most recently served as Head Varsity Football Coach at Byhalia High School (Division 4A). He also led the Mississippi Mudcats of the United Football League. In addition to his coaching background, Coach Loper is the Founder and CEO of Jay Lo Fitness Studios in Olive Branch, MS, which he has owned and operated for over 20 years. His leadership in both performance training and personal development will be a tremendous asset to FACS Athletics.

We’re excited to announce that Coach Jessica Geabhart is now the Girls Track Coach at FACS! Coach Geabhart began her coaching journey in 2021 with the elementary track team and later served as an assistant coach for the secondary team. She has been on staff at FACS for twelve years and currently serves as a secondary counselor.

“I’m excited for this new adventure. Being a coach has been such a blessing. I’m honored to take on this role and hope to see our track program grow,” she shared.

Her heart for students and commitment to their success—both on the track and in life—make her an incredible addition to the athletic leadership team.

Coach J.C. Davis, Boys Track Coach

Coach Jonathan C. Davis, Sr. Named Boys Track Coach

Also joining our track program is Coach Jonathan C. Davis, Sr., now serving as Boys Track Coach. Coach Davis fell in love with track and field during his years at Germantown High School, where his relay teams broke numerous Tennessee high school records. He was offered a walk-on opportunity to Arkansas State University but ultimately chose a different path—one that led to his true passion: coaching.

Over the last 14 years, Coach Davis has coached at multiple levels, including as Assistant Coach for the Germantown Cardinals SYS Track Team and Lowrance Middle School. His coaching philosophy is anchored in two powerful mottos: “Pushing Through Your Limits” and “Leave It On The Track!”

Coach Davis is supported by his “Davis Party of 4”—his wife, Coach Mia Davis (FACS Head Cheer Coach), and their two children, JJ and Malia, both students at FACS.

“First Assembly Christian School has been a blessing to me in more ways than one,” he says. “I’ve supported FACS since day one, and I’m honored to now serve in this role.”

Coach Bob Alberson and family Defensive Coordinator

We are excited to add Coach Bob Alberson to our FACS Football Coaching Team this year. Coach Alberson comes with 20+ years of experience in coaching and academics, most recently with White Station. He served in the military and has won 3 state championships as an assistant coach, and we couldn't be more excited for him to bring his skill set and experience to FACS Football.

Looking Ahead

With these exceptional coaches in place, FACS Athletics is poised for a future rooted in unity, excellence, and spiritual growth. Whether on the field, in the weight room, on the court, or around the track, our student-athletes will be mentored by coaches who lead with vision, integrity, and the love of Christ.

We couldn’t be more excited for the direction of FACS Athletics. The future is bright—Go Crusaders!

The energy around new leadership and change in athletics really stood out to me, because sports can shape character, resilience, and teamwork in such powerful ways. At the same time, I’ve noticed how pressure in competitive environments can sometimes push people toward unhealthy coping mechanisms. That’s one of the reasons I believe having supportive outlets matters so much—whether it’s on the field or through recovery programs. For anyone struggling beyond the game, finding the right rehab setting, like those offered at the Canadian Centre for Addictions, can provide the structure and encouragement needed to rebuild confidence and move forward with a healthier mindset.
